Hinduism is known to be the oldest living religious faith, and is said to have its beginnings from 5500 BC. The Harappan civilization of the Indus River Valley had flourished around this time. It is the third largest religion practiced after Christianity and Islam in the world.

No particular prophet or founder has been identified. Several holy books or textsare found in Hinduism, such as the Vedas, Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and the Mahabharatha. Rather than a religion, Hinduism is classified as a philosophy that has been passed for generations by mystics, saints, seers, and sages, both men and women over thousands of years.

An estimated 840 million people around the world are followers ofHinduism, with the majority of the population in India. However, Hindu communities are numerous around the world. Approximately 2.7 million Hindus reside in the USA. There are also Hindu communities that are widespread throughout England, U.A.E. and Middle East, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Guyana, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean Islands, Australia, South Africa and East African nations.
